Get to Know GLCCA Board Member Ben Mauch

When it comes to the collection industry, it is a family affair for one of GLCCA’s newest board members, Ben Mauch. Ben, who is Vice President of Certified Services in Gurnee, Illinois, followed in the footsteps of his father, who purchased the business in the early 1980’s, starting his tenure at the agency right after graduating from Marquette University in 2006.

Certified Services focuses primarily on medical collections, and provides its customers with the benefit of an enthusiastic and dedicated collection team. “We are fortunate to have many employees who have enjoyed a long tenure with our agency. It truly is a family feel, when I consider the amazing group of team members we have in place,” he reflects. “This means that when our customers call, they are able to speak with the same person and build a relationship, creating an important level of trust,” Mauch adds.

In his role as Vice President, Ben provides guidance in developing the big picture direction for the agency. “I think of my role as a relationship manager. I develop the infrastructure for our employees and our customers to be successful,” he indicates. In addition to his responsibility in building relationships with clients, Mauch handles the marketing and oversees compliance concerns.

Being involved with GLCCA was a natural next step for Ben, who was a board member for the Illinois Collection Association. “I think being involved in the GLCCA is so important for small agencies. It is a way that we can network with other like-minded professionals while giving back to our industry,” he suggests.

In addition to building important networking relationships, Mauch notes that GLCCA involvement also provides a voice for the small agency. “Being a part of the GLCCA gives smaller agencies a voice. It allows us to band together and support each other. We are able to speak to any issues that our colleagues at other agencies might be facing,” he states.

Mauch suggests that the more members who become involved, the greater the impact at not only a local level, but also at a state, and even national scope. “There is strength in numbers. When we band together as a group of professionals, there is a greater awareness of upcoming legislation. This gives us the knowledge to advocate against regulatory issues that might create roadblocks towards running an effective agency.”

In the end, Ben believes that in order for the collection industry to be successful long term, involvement in associations like GLCCA is paramount. “It is the best for the long term future of the industry. We can help each other grow as well as keep up-to-date on any trends or issues coming down the pipeline. Even something that might seem like a minor change can be a big deal for our everyday operations. GLCCA membership allows us to discover and discuss these issues and prevent detrimental legislation from coming through. It also helps us to self-regulate a bit so that we are all utilizing industry best practices,” Mauch concludes.

When he is not overseeing Certified Services, Inc., you can find Ben outside. He enjoys being on the water wakeboarding and waterskiing in the summer. In the winter, he trades water for snow and takes to the slopes as well as the area snowmobile trails. However, the largest portion of his time away from the office is devoted to his wife and three children ages 5, 3 and 9 months, which keep him happily busy.
